Our Approach
SUSTAINABILITY
We feel it is impossible to call ourselves fully sustainable because we are a brand that creates new products. However, as vintage or second-hand underwear isn’t for everyone, it is our goal to be the next best alternative. We know we are not perfect, but we are striving to do everything we can to minimise our negative impacts on the planet, and to enable consumers to do the same. We are very proud to share with you our process so far, and will keep you updated with what is to come.
THE FRUITY BOOTY PROCESS
Over 80% of Fruity Booty products are made from surplus fabrics and materials, which would otherwise have gone to landfill, sourced from suppliers in the UK. The rest of our pieces are created from conscious material suppliers. We solely produce limited quantities of all our products to avoid waste from overproduction.
MANUFACTURING
All of our pieces are produced in a specialised factory that has been making underwear for over thirty years in a village in Porto, Portugal. Being close to home allows us to minimise our carbon footprint, oversee production, ensure practices are as promised, and guarantee design and quality are never compromised.
PACKAGING
We have a zero single use plastic policy throughout our supply chain. We receive our products from our manufacturer in recycled packaging, and send all of your orders in recyclable brown paper mailing bags. Your pieces come inside beautiful organza drawstring bags that are designed to be used again and again.
UNDERWEAR THAT LASTS
By being transparent about the process of making Fruity Booty garments, we want to show you how precious they are, and encourage you to cherish your pieces rather than let them go to waste. Although underwear is a small garment, it is one of the most complicated to manufacture. One bra alone has 20-48 parts in it. We do everything we can to ensure the process of making them is as sustainable as possible, but there is also a lot you can do to make them last as long as they can.
AFTERCARE
Here are some guidelines for how to minimise your impact on the environment, and how to make your garments live the long and happy life they deserve:
- Where possible, hand wash
- If machine washing, always wash cold
- Hang dry, don’t tumble dry where possible
If you feel your time with your Fruity Booty pieces is over, please consider donating to the amazing charity, Smalls for All, rather than letting them go to waste.
